2010 ENnies Judge Nominees

Megan Robertson Hello - I'm Megan. I am running for ENnies judge because I believe that my wide knowledge of role-playing games enables me to give a balanced opinion of what 'works' as a game, and so pick out the brightest and best of the year's offerings for you to vote on.

You may have encountered my reviews scattered around the Internet, which should give you an idea of my approach. Please visit my site http://www.rpg-resource.org.uk/ to see how I think about games.
Todd Zircher I've been an avid game player and collector for over thirty years. I still find new products that excite me and spark my imagination. These gems need to be recognized and I want to be part of that process. My kids are grown and I'm now in a position to be able to devote the time and energy needed to be a judge.
Jeramy Ware I believe that I am a good judge because I enjoy a variety of games, and can see through their differences without having any preconceived notions about the inherent superiority of any system. I also have the time and desire to read through the books that I would have to review as a judge. The flexibility of my work allows several hours each day to dedicate to fulfilling my responsibilities. During my previous terms I have proven myself capable of handling my duties, and I promise to bring the same work ethic and sincerity to my term this year.
Richard W. Spangle hello. my name is richard and i am intersted in becoming a judge. i am an old school gamer who has "been around the block" and truely enjoy my hobby. although not an expert, i believe i would make a good judge based on my years of experience and my creative personality.
Tracey Michienzi Hi! I am Tracey and I am 28 years old and a paralegal. I am rather new to the hobby (going on 5 years now), but the amount of time I have played doesn't reflect the excitement I have for this hobby. I love gaming. I met my husband through gaming. I met a lot of my friends through gaming.

Every year I see the list of nominees and I see games I have never heard of or seen before. I love discovering new and different games, and have made it a goal to run every new game I purchase as well as try new systems at every convention and gameday I attend. In fact, I made a resolution this year to try and run a "new to me" game at every convention/gameday I attend.

As an ENnies Judge I would take honor in the process of introducing new games and gaming products to people. I believe that until I read or try a game, I should not make too harsh a judgement on a game. I also believe that no matter who makes the game, it is the quality of the game that counts.

I am running because I believe that gaming is fun, social and a chance to try something new. I want to help in the process that introduces gamers to new things they hadn't thought of before.
Jay Peters Many years have passed since I first found Champions, but my interest in the hobby has only grown with time. I am an avid roleplayer, even going as far as purchasing a local gaming store to ensure I could always have a steady stream of gamers and gaming around me.

These days I work in IT but I have dreams of one day working with an RPG developer that creates the next big thing. And hopefully I won't just be fixing their computers...
Matt Strickling I love games and gaming, and I like to see innovation in storytelling rewarded.
Kennon C. Bauman In my spare time, I’m a professional analyst, but most of the time I’m a gamer.
I’ve been in love with games and gaming since I first saw an ad for Dungeons and Dragons on the back of a Transformers comic book, and hooked since an uncle, seeing a fledgling nerd, bought me a copy of HeroQuest for Christmas. That said, it wasn't until years later, when introduced to WEGs d6 Star Wars, that I really learned to roll the dice.

Since then, I’ve played or run games in 4 editions of D&D, 3 versions of d20 Star Wars, d6 Star Wars, d20 Modern, Mutants & Masterminds, Savage Worlds, True20, Hollow Earth Expedition, Shadowrun, GURPS, Kobolds Ate My Baby, Torg, Dread, Warhammer FRP, and a few others too obscure to name.

I’ve been deeply involved with the ENnies since 2007, and with the greater ENWorld community from when it was still Eric Noah’s 3rd Edition News. I was previously an ENnies judge in 2009, and am quite proud of the slate of fantastic games and gaming products we chose to nominate. If chosen as a judge again this year, I’ll judge the entrants fairly and systematically, using a weighted pair-ranking system that ensures each product’s merits and flaws are carefully considered.

Finally, if elected, I promise to do my part to avoid destroying your puny world with space lasers. Honestly, where are you going to get a better deal than that?
Francois Labrecque This french-canadian has gaming in it's blood and possibly DNA, eh. I have a deep passion for this hobby and I hope that I can help it by serving as a judge. Getting elected judge is an honor, that I will repay with hard work, sweat and a pound of flesh.
James D. Hargrove Hi, I'm James D. Hargrove! Some of you may remember me from such places as RPGNow, where I formed and managed the staff review department for a year, or from my guide to diceless, collaborative, role playing published by Politically Incorrect Games (i.e., Formless Collaborative Roleplaying). I'm running to be an ENnies judge because I have scads of free time on my hands and have plenty of experience reviewing games that I can bring to the table!
Mark Green I am a 36-year-old aerospace engineer, husband, father, and gamer. I grew up in Western Kentucky and received my degree in Engineering Physics from Murray State University. I moved to Huntsville, AL in 1997 to work in the defense industry. I've also lived in Syracuse, NY, Los Alamos, NM, and Tucson, AZ. Everywhere I've gone, I've taken my love of games - all types of games - with me. My current gaming group has been together for over 10 years and includes a number of friends from college.
I'm running again this year because I feel that I can represent an important segment of the gaming community; the busy professional hobby enthusiast. Despite public perception, not all gamers are living in their mom's basement, nor do all gamers "eat, breath, and sleep" the game. Some of us approach our hobby as a means to an end - hang out with our friends, have a few laughs, and enjoy ourselves. I'm that gamer.
Emmanuel Deloget I'm a 35 y.o. gamer with 20 years of experience as a GM. I apply as a judge because :
* I'm curious as hell.
* most of my time on the Internet is freely given to answer questions (although I'm more active on programming forums, I have a presence on a few RPG-related forum). It's just another way to help.
Gregory Scott Lipsey Hello. My name is Scott and I have a decades-long love for RPGs. After college (I was a Media Studies/Journalism major) I moved to Renton Washington hoping to work for WotC. Before that happened, however, I took an opportunity to work in Hollywood. I was a script coordinator for Beverly Hills, 90210 before becoming a writer on Charmed and Spiderman: the Animated Series. I have also worked on Dexter for Showtime and various other shows and pilots. Two years ago (during the writers' strike) I moved to Las Vegas and I currently work for a FRPG MMO computer game company as the Creative Director. I enjoy writing and creating fantasy worlds and have been able to make a consistent living at it. The only reason I have not attempted to write professionally for pen and paper games is that other writing jobs pay so much better and I had opportunities to pursue them. I am married with two kids (10 and 12) who are both fantasy nuts.
Christopher W. Richeson I want to serve my community again in 2011 by contributing as an ENnies judge. I've been an active RPG reviewer for five years, and while I've learned a considerable amount while supporting this hobby there's one lesson I've taken to heart: the play's the thing. Games are meant to be played, not just read, and any serious evaluation needs contact with the gaming table. With my many roleplaying friends that's something I've brought to the 2010 ENnies and something I'll bring again. Long campaigns, short campaigns, one shots, and group setting creation are all a blast and we're all happy to play whatever comes our way.

This year I intend to coordinate with other judges earlier on to make sure absolutely every entry gets played by at least one judge, with several of us focusing in on some of the more complex and interesting entries. I am asking you to vote me back in as an ENnies judge because I can guarantee you that I'm taking these games to the table time and again to make sure the nominations are the games that don't just read well but deliver what they promise at the table.
Jeffrey Lewis I'm a 27 year old casino manager who has been playing RPGs since I was 3 or 4 years old. I've been following the ENnies since they've been around and felt that it was time for me to contribute something to this hobby. I have an eye for unbalanced and poorly designed mechanics, as well as ADHD when it comes to settings (my current group has played 5 different games so far this year)
Christopher M. Olson I'm an avid role-playing gamer and collector. I'm acknowledged as one of the best game masters in the area and my games regular explode into huge affairs unless I put a hard cap on the number of players allowed I have dabbled in game creation and that has made me more than aware of the problems that must to be overcome when doing that.
Sean Parker Hello, My name is Sean Parker. I've been a gamer since I was 11 (27 years ago now) and gaming has played a prominent role in my life ever since. I'm running again this year for pretty much the same reason as last time; to be able to do something more for the hobby that I enjoy so much. I know I'll never write the next big game, but I still want to contribute to the community and industry in some way. Being a Judge gives me the chance to do just that. So here I am again.
Kevin Harada I am a supervisor at a large retail chain and have a B.A. in religion. I am an experienced role-player with 23 years of experience under my belt, during which time I have served as both a player and game master. I have played in many different game systems and genres. I am running to be a judge for the ENnies because I believe that I have a strong background in various different rpgs and can use this background to effectively judge various rpg products.
Beth Perrin Hi! I am a college student at a Midwestern University studying psychology and whatever books I can get a hold of. Gaming is a huge part of my life and would love the opportunity to help contribute even more to the hobby. I believe that I have a unique perspective and would love to share it. I have had a varied experience in gaming including tabletop, trading cards and board games.
Joseph Medica I have been playing RPGs for 28 years. I have played everything from all D& D editions (boxed sets through 4e), Gamma World, HarnMaster, Serenity, and Stargate SG1. I have no "platform" per se, I love role-playing games. I am looking for the opportunity to review some of the new, cutting edge offerings. As a parent, I am also very attuned to the appropriateness of materials. RPGs, by their nature, will cover the gamut of personal experience, but not every player is into the same thing. Games should have the ability to morph to meet the need of the players. The best ones do!
